I wanted to share my experience today with going to the doctor - the OC Bike Doctor aka Jason Seamans that is!!!
I usually do my own work on my bikes, but sometimes I need the help of someone who really knows what they're doing. So I called Jason today and within an hour I was at his workshop. As I walked in, I was amazed at how many bikes I saw and all the tools everywhere. It was like walking into my grandfather's workshop. There were many mountain bikes, motorcycles of all types and even a rare Stella scooter. Jason built them all! The place is literally stacked to the rafters with tools and tons of little projects like the huge RC car up on the shelf. I knew walking into this place that I was dealing with a true craftsman.
Jason's buddy Steve was helping out with another job - meticulously cleaning a shock that had been brought in for a rebuild. We helped Jason lift my 38 pound Big Hit to the stand (he broke a collar bone recently in a motorcycle accident) and he began inspecting my bike. Although I just came in for a brake adjustment, (and this really impressed me) Jason started looking over the entire bike. He was looking at things I didn't even think about - in true form of a person who really understands bikes.
Of course, adjusting my hydraulic brakes and aligning them was no problem for Jason and he even went to the trouble to straighten out the rotors. While I would have been happy with a little brake rub with new pads, Jason insisted, "No, I can get it better." So I let him continue tweaking on the brakes until it was time for a test spin.
"Burn the pads in - just put it in low, hold down the brakes and pedal", he says.
I take a trip up and down the block and notice that the pads are seating nicely and not rubbing anymore. No further adjustments for the brakes needed.
Then he says, "I heard some grinding." I said well, maybe it was my sloppy shifting. He insists - nope, your front derailleur needs an adjustment. So back on the stand.
One more small tweak, and now the front derailleur is perfect. So then Jason takes it for a test spin himself to feel the suspension. He dials in the suspension to my weight and says OK - now you won't get bucked off the bike anymore. I had to laugh because I have actually been feeling like the bike was pushing me forward at times.
After we were done working on the bike - and I have to add that at every step of the way he not only did the work but explained to me why and how he was doing it - we just rapped out about mountain biking, the community, and lots of other things. I really felt welcome there and Jason is a great person to talk to. Not only did I get my bike fixed, but I learned some things and I had a good time during it all.
Honestly, I've never met a better bike mechanic. Nor do I often meet such genuine people. I highly recommend the OC Bike Doctor.

If anybody asks me for a recommendation for a quality wrench, Jason Seamans always comes to mind. Knowledgeable is an understatement when describing him.......he knows bikes down to a science. Everything is done w/ precision, and he is never happy unless the customer's happy. Additionally, he'll try to teach you how to fix your bike as he's working on it! Not only is he one of the best mechanics out there, he's one one of the most genuine and honest guys around.

Can't beat the quick turn around time and attention to detail! Took the bike in for a Fork Overhaul, and derailleur cable install. Walked out the next day with what felt like a new bike. Super clean, meticulous, bike running like a dream. Thanks Jason!

Jason is an amazing bike mechanic. I had him do a performance tune up / pro build on my Stump Jumper. None of my other bikes ride as smooth and nice as the Stump Jumper. I'll have to bring my "fleet" of bikes for him to tune up, so they will all be consistent. Great job jason... Many thanks... Every time I ride the Stump Jumper I get an ear to ear grin.
